Nicaragua… few travelers go there, yet this Central American country hides one of the most beautiful treasures of global craftsmanship: its bar hammock! Between volcanoes, lagoons, and colorful villages, it is a proud and welcoming people who perpetuate a know-how passed down from generation to generation. On our site, you will notice that we offer very few bar hammocks. This is explained by the specificity of this type of hammock, which we detail further on our page: The wooden bar hammock.
Nicaragua has specialized in the manufacture of bar hammocks, mainly intended for the United States, where this model is the most popular. Americans are the primary buyers, followed by Canadians. In Nicaragua, they are commonly found in hotels with a mosquito net or in country houses. They are often positioned out of the sun and hung on posts. However, in large cities, residents often do not have the space to install them at home due to the design of the houses, often small terraced homes. Nicaraguans therefore use bar hammocks very little on a daily basis. And yet, they are the ones who make the best bar hammocks in the world today. Surprising, isn’t it?
Several elements explain this quality and comfort:
Very long hammock arms: The peculiarity of Nicaraguan bar hammocks also comes from their design. The length of the arms eliminates the rigid balance point found in many other models. The hammock thus retains its flexibility and allows you to curl up lengthwise or even diagonally where the bars reach up to 110 cm. A total feeling of freedom, between floating and enveloping comfort, which makes all the difference compared to standard bar hammocks.
Less friction = more quality: The length of the arms also reduces pressure on the wooden bar. This helps decrease friction between the ropes and the wooden bar and increases the hammock’s lifespan.
Unique comfort: The entire hammock is made of 100% cotton, woven with a loose and slightly stretchy mesh (much less stretchy than our Mexican hammocks). But just enough for the fabric to relax sufficiently and create a natural pocket. Enough to feel like you’re in a cocoon, while being able to sunbathe and contemplate the space around you (something more difficult with a classic hammock).
For care, leave your hammock in place and wash it with a brush and warm soapy water: one side, then the other. Rinse it, then air dry. Its mesh, even very thick, lets air pass through and will dry quickly.
We offer everything you need to hang your hammock in our hammock fixing section.
To adapt this hammock to a support, we recommend the MAYA KING-LUXE 10-ply Spruce support. You will find a set with this support to give you an idea of the look and design that a hammock combined with its support can offer, both in terms of decoration and atmosphere: Maya King Hammock Support + Nica Ecru XL Hammock.
