Regarding maintenance, the hammock chair can easily be removed from the wooden bar to be machine washed at 40°C. It is important to wash the seat of the chair at least once a year, especially if you use it outdoors.
The metal frame is not made of stainless material. From experience (we are 4 km from the Atlantic in our beautiful Landes region with a marine climate), we have noticed that it requires maintenance after 2 to 3 years. The maintenance is very simple: a single coat of "Hammerite" paint, which you can easily find in hardware stores. And it’s good for another 3 to 4 years!
You may have noticed that we specify the number of cords present in the arms of the hammock. This model, for example, has 52 cords in total (26 cords on each side), each with a resistance of 16 kg. It should be noted that when we state 16 kg resistance, it is because we have conducted tests and this cord has a breaking point at 32 kg. The safety rule for hammocks is to divide the breaking point of a product by 2. That’s why you sometimes see photos of tests with considerable weights on our product sheets. Indeed, we have never managed to break one of our hammocks during a test!
Similarly, a 2mm diameter cord can have a resistance of 16 kg, while another cord of the same diameter may only have 5 kg. The resistance of a single thread is important. It all depends on the quality of the thread used. Knowing that the stronger it is, the more expensive it is (let’s not forget that the hammock is a heavy product and the cost of the raw material composing it has a great influence on its final price). Likewise, the manufacturing technique also matters: thread density per meter and twisting technique.
In our Colombian manufacturing, the cord composing the hammock arms is traditionally called "Piola Curican." It is made of 3 strands. Each strand is twisted in one direction, and when the three are assembled together, they are twisted in the opposite direction. That’s why when a customer brings us a hammock that is ten years old or even much older and is at the end of its life, we sometimes recover the cord from the arms to use later for repairs!
