Our Colombian hammocks made from recycled cotton are always aligned with the spirit of durable and eco-responsible products. This collection from Colombia gives us the opportunity to share with you the artisanal and ancestral weaving techniques. A lightweight single hammock that can also serve as a travel hammock for your hikes. Always remember to carry a kit with ropes to set up your hammock wherever you want. To learn how to properly install your hammock: How to hang my hammock?
Leave this hammock outdoors permanently so you can enjoy it at any time. Only bring it inside when the weather forecast predicts several days of rain. Make sure to untangle the ropes in the arms if necessary to avoid putting tension on certain cords. Wash it in the machine at 40° at least once a year at the end of the season. This will remove all invisible organic debris caught between the threads due to outdoor use. These debris can cause mold. Machine washing cleans the fabric. Store it inside during winter and not in a garden shed because of mice and humidity.
By following these few tips, your hammock will last you a good ten years. This is what we observe with our customers. That’s the advantage of having over 35 years of experience! We get feedback from our clients! And to become a true hammock pro, we recommend watching the short video below!
You may have noticed that we specify the number of ropes in the arms of the hammock. For example, this model has 36 ropes in total (13 ropes on each side) each with a resistance of 16 kg. In reality, if we state 16 kg resistance, it means we have tested and found that this rope’s breaking point is 32 kg. The safety rule for hammocks is to divide the breaking point of a product by 2. That’s why you sometimes see photos in our product sheets showing tests with considerable weights in our hammocks. Indeed, we have never managed to break one of our hammocks during a test!
Similarly, a 2mm diameter cord can have a resistance of 16 kg while another cord of the same diameter may only have 5 kg. The resistance of a single thread is important. Everything depends on the quality of the thread used. The more resistant it is, the more expensive it is (let’s not forget that the hammock is a heavy product and the cost of the raw material greatly influences its final price). Also, the manufacturing technique matters: thread density per meter and twisting technique.
In our Colombian manufacturing, the cord that makes up the arms of the hammock is traditionally called "Piola Curican". It is made of 3 strands. Each strand is twisted in one direction and when the three are assembled together, they are twisted in the opposite direction. That’s why when a customer returns a hammock that is ten years old or even much older and is at the end of its life, we sometimes recover the arm cords to use later for repairs!
Tropical Hamac offers unbeatable quality/price ratio. Also, you can find in our XL durable fabric hammocks the same model in a larger size.
