Mexican Hammock L Tequila: a colorful stopover in Yucatán

With its yellow and red shades, the Mexican hammock L Tequila It evokes the light and energy of Mexico. Its single-seat format is perfect for reading, taking a nap, or simply enjoying a moment of calm in the garden, on the terrace, or inside the house.

Unlike products quickly made for the tourist market, this model is crafted using the traditional methods of the Yucatán. Tropical Hamac selects authentic pieces, made in the artisans' homes, without imposing standardized color combinations on them.

A soft bedding that follows the shape of the body

The Tequila L is made up of a multitude of fine interwoven threads. This stretchable structure distributes weight across the entire sleeping surface and follows movements without creating pronounced pressure points.

To fully enjoy this flexibility, position yourself slightly diagonally rather than lengthwise. This position allows you to open up the sleeping area and achieve a more natural posture.

Are you still unsure about the different construction options available? Our guide: Mesh hammock or fabric hammock: which type of hammock to choose ? will help you compare their comfort, durability, and maintenance.

A breathable mesh for hot days

The air circulates over the entire surface.

The open structure of the mesh hammock allows air to pass under the body, unlike a solid fabric sleeping surface. This constant ventilation reduces the feeling of heat and makes the Mexican hammock particularly comfortable in summer or in regions with a hot climate.

This design explains why the hammock continues to be used as a daily sleeping option in many households in the Yucatán. To discover the origin of this tradition, check out our article: The history of the Mexican hammock.

A traditional handwoven fabric

The making of a Mexican hammock requires patience, precision, and experience. The Tequila model is crafted using skills passed down within Maya families. Its tight weave provides a softer feel against the skin compared to industrial nets with large openings.

Our article: Mexican hammock: the 4 threads of the Mayas Here is a more detailed presentation of this manufacturing method and the elements that allow one to recognize a genuine Yucatán hammock.

A hammock L designed for one person

The L size offers a comfortable space for one person while remaining easy to carry and set up. Its extendable sleeping area measures approximately 180 × 250 cm and its total length reaches 380 cm.

It can support up to 250 kg, thanks in particular to its some 240 suspension cables, which help distribute the load between the two ends.

Storage and maintenance of the net hammock

An included tote bag to protect the arms

The Tequila L hammock comes with its storage tote bag. It makes it easier to carry, but above all, it prevents its numerous wires and suspension arms from getting tangled when it is not in use.

Before storing it, make sure the net is completely dry. Then keep it in a clean, dry place away from moisture.

Hand wash recommended

Due to the fineness of its weave, this hammock should be hand washed with a mild detergent. Remove jewelry and be careful with zippers, buttons, or objects that could snag the threads.

When the weather is favorable, its airy weave facilitates drying. However, it is still preferable to bring it indoors in case of prolonged bad weather to preserve its colors and structure for many years.

How to repair a Mexican hammock

Having spent a week learning to weave this hammock on the island of Holbox in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico (thank you Maria for your patience and thank your husband)  For these many boat rides, I am able to repair them. If one day you have some broken threads or the arms of the hammock too tangled, then call me at the store and we will see together what can be done. But beware, if 4 threads side by side are broken (which is an entire stitch), then the repair is no longer possible because rebuilding an entire stitch without a conductive thread takes a good half day!
