The CARIBENA Albizia XL hammock chair is made of recycled cotton. Its durability is exceptional since we observe in the store that our customers come to replace it after about ten years. Our latest collection highlights Andalusia. Here, the Albizia tree, whose leaves and flowers are so delicate they resemble lace. It shifts from a deep green to fine white and pink flowers. In Africa, they call it the flamboyant!

At Tropical Hamac, we have built our expertise by forging strong ties with artisans from Latin America. Our Colombian seated hammock with its spruce wood stand is the result of this history, ancestral know-how, and a quest for absolute comfort.
In the 1990s, searching for suspended hammock manufacturers in Colombia required real exploration work. At that time, the Internet was not yet an accessible tool, and identifying artisans relied mainly on recommendations and local contacts. The Colombian embassy in France sometimes provided lists of weavers, but it was still necessary to go there in person to establish collaborations.
Colombia was then going through a troubled period, and the country attracted no tourism. Traveling by bus was risky, making trips complex. Meetings with artisans mainly took place in large cities, where they would come by appointment. These exchanges allowed us to discover exceptional skills and forge strong bonds with passionate creators.
The story really began with a traditional Colombian hammock manufacturer. But at that time, no one in Colombia knew about the suspended hammock-chair: this concept came from Brazil, popularized in the 1980s. Since this manufacturer was not yet familiar with it, we worked together to design one.
The first trials were not perfect, but we refined every detail: thread tension, weight distribution, softness of the recycled cotton. Today, after 30 years of experience, we have reached an exceptional level of comfort.
Our artisans use recycled cotton, whose threads are selected before being sent to production. The search for new collections is a meticulous process:
Since 1993, we are now on our tenth exclusive collection, making Tropical Hamac the only brand in France to design its own models of Colombian suspended hammocks.
Beyond comfort and design, buying a hammock-chair with wooden stand from Tropical Hamac means supporting fair trade. Our ties with the artisans are almost familial: we regularly visit their workshops, participate in local festivities, and ensure they are fairly paid.
For example, every year, we give them bonuses for Christmas and the Barranquilla carnival, the second largest carnival in the world after Rio. It is a source of pride for Colombians and a tradition we are keen to celebrate with them.
