The hammock is still a very little-known object in the West. In Latin America, it represents a tradition that is 1000 years old! Many weavers work hard to create exceptional models for which affluent customers compete to get the most beautiful pieces. Much like with us, the best vintages are often sold even before being bottled! My 30 years of experience have allowed me to meet many courageous, patient, and gifted artisans. I make sure their compensation is fair and provide them with work each year. The quality of these high-end models allows me to attract connoisseurs who do not make mistakes about the origin, the complexity of the work, and the know-how.
Regarding the Tamara series, I buy high-quality thread that I bring to the village. This is important because very often the artisans cannot truly guarantee whether the thread is premium or not. The quality of the thread used in the making ensures the longevity, good wash resistance, and softness of the hammock fabric.
As a result, Tropical Influences has gradually become a specialist in rare and unique models for an increasingly expert clientele. At the very beginning, when hammock culture was not yet what it has become today, I brought these pieces back out of passion, for my personal collection and also to display to my customers. To my great surprise, I started selling more and more, and I am happy both for the artisans and for you who are reading these few lines to be able to offer an increasingly wide selection every year.
If you come to the store, I will be pleased to show you my personal collection; there are models so complex and exceptional that they fully deserve their place in a museum. I could not put them up for sale! High-end craftsmanship is also threatened in favor of the industrial system. We must save and sustain the craft and pass on the know-how to young artisans!
