We are all influenced by the price of items we see on the Internet. The price, the warranty, the advertised lifespan… these are often the first criteria that catch our attention. Yet, comfort is just as essential — and it too often takes a back seat.
There are two main styles of hammocks:
the wooden spreader bar hammock, often called the Western version of the hammock,
and the hammock without bars, the traditional canvas model (the one Christopher Columbus brought back from his first trip to Latin America).
The spreader bar hammock must be well stretched during installation: you lie down lengthwise, usually on your back.
The traditional hammock, on the other hand, must be well curved: you position yourself diagonally, flat, in a “fetal” or sitting position. To learn more: How to properly lie down in a hammock?
The problem is that most stands sold online are designed for a bit of both… but really fit neither. Too short, too low — hence those small wooden stands with tiny spreader bar hammocks. Result: guaranteed fall!
For a traditional hammock, the ratio between the hammock length and the stand height is crucial for the final comfort.
👉 Too tight? You’ll be cramped, and it will quickly become uncomfortable.
👉 Well curved? The fabric will be flexible, allowing you to lie diagonally, flat, without any pressure points.
As hammock specialists since 1988, we have long worked directly with stand manufacturers to offer you generous dimensions. Compare the heights of a hammock stand with us and you will see they are nothing like the competition.
Nowadays, core treatments are eco-friendly and no longer contain heavy metals or arsenic. This spruce stand will last a long time with minimal care. We strongly recommend applying a saturator to protect it from rain and UV rays. Very important, this stand should not be stored dry during winter. The wood becomes too dry and cracks. Leave it outside all year without covering it and loosen each bolt by two turns to allow the wood to swell during the cold and humid winter period.
We create a new collection every three years. For this, we call on various French artists, such as Alesko, our loyal designer, who signs a large part of our fabrics. The Mariposa collection (butterfly) is part of our timeless creations. Its fine intersecting lines, subtle and balanced color variations give it a unique elegance, both soft and lively — like the flutter of a butterfly’s wings.
Here in its pink version, this hammock brings a touch of cheerfulness and originality to your interior or garden. An exclusive model you will find nowhere else but with us!
A hammock should be machine washed at 40°C at least once a year at the end of the season. It is a textile product comparable to cotton household linen. In short, don’t hesitate to wash it. Our colors do not fade.
All our hammocks come from Latin America. Pure tradition. A Tropical Hammock exclusive! The passion for hammocks since 1988.
