Luxury Brazilian Hammock

What Brazil offers us at its best in terms of hammocks. Our latest trip ("2500 km in hammock lands") to this vast country, in November 2017, allowed us to find many rare gems and especially to import one of the most beautiful hammock brands from this country. Let yourself be carried away in this section and by Brazilian creativity...

The largest hammock country?

Undoubtedly, it is in Brazil that you can find today the largest number of hammock sleepers. It is said that in some provinces (Sertao desert for example) 70% of the population sleeps in hammocks! As a result, there are many factories and many artisans. The choice is immense. We carefully select our suppliers and even our simplest hammocks can be machine washed up to 60° and will last you about ten years.

Note that the luxury hammocks in this section are models you will keep for so long that you will probably pass them on to your children. A hammock as an inheritance!

FAQ

As surprising as it may seem, the word « hamac » doesn’t really have a direct equivalent in some languages. In Brazil, they speak of « rede de dormir », literally “net for sleeping.” As for the original term « acat », it has gradually faded away over time.

The Brazilian hammock is one of the most renowned in the world. Brazil is a major hammock country, where nearly 70% of the rural population sleeps in hammocks compared to 30% who use them in the big cities. It is a high-quality handcrafted hammock appreciated and recognized for its elegant and understated designs.

Few people know this, but Brazil is the only Latin American country that values the sobriety and elegance of natural-colored hammocks. Used outdoors as well as in living spaces, the natural-colored hammock easily fits into any environment.

Like many handcrafted products, Brazilian hammocks have experienced the ups and downs of the country's economy. In 1994, with the Real pegged to the dollar, prices literally doubled overnight! Then, starting in 2007, the economy strengthened and prices continued to rise. As a result, it became more difficult to offer high-quality hammocks without compromising on craftsmanship… something we always strive to avoid.
