An authentic Brazilian hammock.

Our recycled cotton hammocks are, as always, in the spirit of sustainable and eco-friendly products. This collection from Brazil gives us the opportunity to make you appreciate the traditional and ancestral weaving techniques. Each hammock is a unique piece with human intervention in the creation of the Mamucaba. This is a small hand-woven strip located between the arms of the hammock and the fabric, thus preventing the ropes from rubbing against each other and providing remarkable comfort.

The origin of the hammock.

The hammock has its place in cultural and artisanal tradition for thousands of years in the forests of Central America, the Caribbean, and the northern part of the South American continent. Today, millions of people still sleep in their hammocks every night. Mainly in Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador... In each country, there are manufacturers producing different qualities. This quality therefore varies greatly from one hammock to another. Tropical Influences has always focused on the quality of its products. This collection is developed in Brazil, in a place renowned for its expertise.

The history of the hammock

According to written records, the hammock was discovered in 1492 in Haiti by Christopher Columbus. In the indigenous language, the word hammock means "Cradle of angels." Archaeologists say it has existed for at least a thousand years. Much like wine in France. In some Latin American countries, its production is as complex as winemaking here. In Colombia, the hammock varies from one region to another. It can be made industrially but also according to ancestral manufacturing methods. Some are works of art that can exceed a thousand euros. Try telling a Colombian that you can buy wine for that price..! Discover all our luxury hammocks.
