Colombia and the history of the hanging chair according to Tropical Hamac
Since 1993, Tropical Hamac has been present in Colombia, a then little-known, hard-to-reach country where human and artisanal adventure takes on its full meaning. In a time without the Internet, it was the Colombian embassy in France that provided a valuable list of hammock manufacturers. The path to this Latin American world of hammocks went through Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico… Each region explored, each encounter made, forged a strong bond with passionate artisans and authentic manufacturers.
Colombia at that time was marked by tensions and seldom visited by tourists. Traveling by bus was risky, and it was often necessary to stay in big cities waiting for the artisans to come to us. Yet, it was there that Tropical Hamac discovered people of incredible generosity and warmth, with hearts as big as their talent.
An exceptional hammock manufacturer
It was during these journeys that Tropical Hamac met one of the best Colombian manufacturers. Committed to quality and excellence, Tropical Hamac always selects its partners with rigor. At the time, this manufacturer did not yet know the concept of the hammock chair — a product invented by Brazilians in the 1980s. Without the Internet, this innovation had not yet crossed borders.
With patience and high standards, Tropical Hamac worked closely with these artisans to design this unique hanging chair. Comfort was not immediate, neither on the first nor the second try. But thirty years later, the result is here: a product that is both comfortable, robust, and designed to last.
A human and sustainable collaboration
This relationship has become much more than a simple professional partnership. The ties are almost familial: the boss’s daughter even spent two years in France for her studies, and visits multiply on both sides. The workshop workers are never forgotten, always happily welcoming suitcases full of gifts and thoughtful gestures. This year again, a Christmas bonus was paid, reflecting the mutual recognition and respect at the heart of this beautiful adventure.Have a good carnival. The Barranquilla carnival in Colombia is the second largest carnival in the world after Rio de Janeiro. It lasts two months!!!
