Wooden Hammock Stands: Spruce or Larch, Which Is the Best Choice?

Wooden stands bring an elegant natural touch to your relaxation space, but the choice of wood species is essential to ensure longevity and stability. Spruce and larch are two popular options, each with its specifics.

For our very large hammocks, we offer you two types of wood. One in Larch, the other in Spruce; it is not always easy to know the differences, so we explain here the main strengths and differences:

Spruce: Superior Quality and Stability

Our spruce wooden hammock stands come from Poland, where the climatic conditions produce slow growth and dense, robust wood. Unlike the larch we import, it offers several advantages:

  • High stability: Spruce, especially in laminated form, has excellent structural resistance, preventing deformations over time.
  • Light and uniform appearance: Its fine grain and light color give it an elegant and timeless aesthetic.
  • Lighter wood: Compared to larch, spruce is easier to handle and move.
  • Ideal for sheltered use or treated: With proper treatment (varnish or impregnation), it offers excellent outdoor durability.

We have two spruce hammock stands. Our Maya Relax stand for our XL and XXL hammocks and our Maya King stand, for all our very large luxury hammocks over 4m long.

Larch: Natural Resistance and Rustic Charm

Our XL larch laminated wooden hammock legs certified FSC, are made from denser wood rich in resin, giving it good natural resistance to weather. It is often chosen for outdoor use without treatment. More economical, it is a heavier wood and may present more knots and color variations.

Which Hammock Stand to Choose?

Do you prioritize robustness and wood that requires little maintenance? → Larch is an excellent choice for prolonged outdoor exposure.

Are you looking for stable, light-colored, and superior quality wood? → Spruce, more refined and better calibrated, will be ideal, especially under shelter or with appropriate maintenance.

Whatever your choice, a wooden stand will enhance your hammock and offer lasting comfort!
