The seat cover is machine washable at 40°C. When used outdoors, pollens, organic debris, dust mites, and fungi eventually settle into the fabric. It is essential, if you want your chair to age well, to wash it at least once a year at the end of the season. That will prevent all problems! Similarly, if you cannot use it indoors all year round, store it in a dry place. Avoid garden sheds and other damp places frequented by mice!
This item is not made of stainless steel, so it is not guaranteed against rust. If you use this stand outdoors, we have observed (in our oceanic Landes climate, 5 km from the beach) that the first signs of oxidation appear after 2 to 3 years. There is a miracle paint available at hardware stores. The "Hammerite" paint is applied in a single coat directly on the metal after a very light sanding and will protect your stand for another 3 to 4 years. It is available in the original hammered grey color as well as many other shades.
We specify a maximum weight of 100 kg for this stand because its flexibility imposes certain limits; even if the stand will not break beyond 100 kg, it becomes a bit too unstable. For people over 100 kg, we strongly recommend our model "Soledad hammock chair stand". That’s what fair trade is about too: being honest and advising you well. We strive to ensure that your hammock experience is a success, and we have been doing so since 1988! As they say, "there's expertise in the hands."
You may have noticed that we indicate the number of cords present in the arms of the hammock. For example, this model has 52 cords in total (26 cords on each side), each with a resistance of 16 kg. In reality, when we specify 16 kg resistance, it means we have tested the cord and its breaking point is actually 32 kg. The safety rule for hammocks is to divide the breaking point of a product by 2. That is why you sometimes see photos on our product sheets showing tests with considerable weights in our hammocks. Indeed, we have never managed to break one of our hammocks during testing!
Similarly, a 2mm diameter cord can have a resistance of 16 kg, while another of the same diameter may only have 5 kg. The resistance of a single thread matters. Everything depends on the quality of the thread used. The stronger it is, the more expensive it is (let us not forget that the hammock is a heavy product and the cost of the raw material has a significant influence on its final price). Likewise, the manufacturing technique is also important: thread density per meter and twisting technique.
In our Colombian manufacturing, the cord that makes up the arms of the hammock is traditionally called "Piola Curican." It is made of 3 strands. Each strand is twisted in one direction, and when the three are assembled together, they are twisted in the opposite direction. That’s why when a customer brings us a hammock that is ten years old or even much older and is at the end of its life, we sometimes recover the arm cords to use them later for repairs!
