Care for your hammock:
The hammock is a textile product that requires care just like jeans, sheets, or towels. We can't say it enough! A Colombian who sleeps in this hammock every night washes it every 10 to 15 days.
We have conducted many tests on all our products and here are the results for this hammock:
Washing at 40°C: colors remain intact. Washing at 60°C: colors remain intact. Washing at 90°C: colors fade.
Many customers come to our store and tell us, "We've had a hammock from you for 4 or 5 years and it's really great." Then we ask the crucial question, "Have you ever washed it in the machine?" and the usual response is, "Oh no, but you know, it's not dirty!" That's when we explain that if you look at the fiber under a microscope, you'll see mites attracted by the smell of Nutella residue, making their way through pollen clumps to finally reach a thread clogged by a fungus. This fungus is just waiting for a bit more moisture to feed because it does not like Nutella!!! Soak this hammock deep in your bathtub and you'll notice the water isn't very clear...
It is therefore essential (especially when the thread quality allows it) to wash your hammock at least once a year in the machine at 40°C. Let it dry outside (no tumble dryer) and store it indoors during the winter, not in the garden shed (mice and humidity). Tie the hammock arms together so they don’t tangle in the washing machine drum.
You will notice that almost all our competitors recommend washing in cold water. The hammock is a heavy product, and it is tempting to use cheap thread for its manufacture. The other solution is to use a lot of synthetic thread, which are nothing more than polyester derivatives, or in other words, plastic! These "rot-proof" guaranteed hammocks age very poorly outdoors, do not tolerate machine washing well, are hot, and sometimes even static when in full sun. As we say in the Landes, "mefiat" (beware)!!!
