This model is still used today by countless Colombians as a daily bed. We have chosen a manufacturer that operates in the high-end market. As a result, as an everyday bed, a Colombian will replace it after about 3 years. We observe among our customers a usage ranging from 5 to 15 years depending on the care given by each person.
Our experience since 1988 shows us:
Intense use: for someone who leaves their hammock outdoors day and night for 5 to 6 months of the year. The cords get tangled! Washing is unknown.
Careful use: for someone who leaves their hammock outdoors but brings it in when rainy weather is forecast for several days. A passing rain shower is welcome. The hammock is machine washed at 40° at least once a year at the end of the season, then stored indoors during winter. The cords are regularly checked.
Ultra sturdy and non-deformable, this fabric (360g per m²) is consistent. Many hammocks have fabrics that eventually sag and trap you inside. The thread used is recycled cotton. 70% cotton from the textile industry (clean scraps with stable dyes) and 30% polyester. The polyester filament is there to strengthen the recycled thread. This thread is truly ecological as it earned us the "Sustainable Development Trophy" from our chamber of commerce.
A high cotton content is pleasant for skin contact. Fabrics with 50% or more polyester as well as all 100% synthetic fabrics should be avoided.
This hammock is made up of 52 cords in the suspension arms, each with a resistance of 16 kg. That totals 528 kg! The breaking weight must be divided by two to get the maximum load. This is why the smaller L-size sibling of this hammock passed our test with 680 kg without breaking!! We always underestimate the maximum allowed load in our technical sheets.
Each hammock passes through the hands of various artisans passionate about this work, which resonates as a deep cultural imprint. There, the hammock has a thousand years of history and traditions. Assembly of the fabric, technical drawing sheets Tropical Influences, hemming, suspension cords, mamucaba, pullado, handle, etc... So many steps that require ancestral know-how.
We invite you to wash this hammock in a machine at 40°, even 60° if necessary. Know that a Brazilian washes theirs every 10 to 15 days when it’s their bed! Most hammocks are washed cold. It all depends on the thread. At Tropical Influences, choice and quality are paramount.
It is a mindset above all. We started in 1988 with respect for all our suppliers, whether industrial or artisanal. Long before the term “fair trade” became widely known. So it is support, presence, loyalty, and fair remuneration that we promote with all our contacts. As a little story, I have made many trips with my suitcases well packed and passed customs sometimes with a few issues. Jewelry, lots of clothes. I was able to make many people happy and create quite a stir in the factories! To the great dismay of the boss who saw his daily production targets not met!! That was at the beginning. Today I rather send nice bonuses. This year, 24 workers were able to improve their end-of-year celebrations as well as their famous carnival. I receive messages and videos from them that fill me with joy. Unfortunately, I do not visit them every year. My work is shared across several producing countries.
All our XL-sized hammock stands will be perfect for this hammock.
