The wooden bar now measures 120 cm. This detail provides more comfort, making it feel less confined at the elbows. We have also reviewed the distribution of the suspension lengths which determines comfort around the head area. This detail is also important. Thanks to this innovation, head support is better sustained. Always mindful of our customers' well-being, our chairs combine quality and comfort. Our blog features an article explaining how anyone can, with a few easy knots, adjust the support of a hammock chair: How to tie a knot to hang a hammock?
You may have noticed that we provide the number of cords present in the arms of the hammock. This model, for example, has 52 cords in total (26 cords on each side), each with a resistance of 16 kg. It should be noted that when we state 16 kg resistance, it means we have conducted tests and this cord has a breaking point at 32 kg. The safety rule for hammocks is to divide the breaking point of a product by 2. This is why you sometimes see photos on our product sheets showing tests with considerable weights in our hammocks. Indeed, we have never managed to break one of our hammocks during a test!
Similarly, a 2mm diameter cord can have a resistance of 16 kg while another of the same diameter only 5 kg. The resistance of a single thread is important. Everything depends on the quality of the thread used. Knowing that the more resistant it is, the more expensive it is (let's not forget that the hammock is a heavy product and the cost of the raw material composing it greatly influences its final price). Likewise, the manufacturing technique also matters. Thread density per meter and twisting technique.
In our Colombian manufacturing, the cord that makes up the arms of the hammock is traditionally called "Piola Curican." It is made of 3 strands. Each strand is twisted in one direction and when the three are assembled together, they are twisted in the opposite direction. That is why when a customer brings us a hammock that is ten years old or even much older and is at the end of its life, we sometimes recover the arm cords to use later for repairs!
