Mariposa, a timeless collection
We created the Mariposa collection in 1996. We started from a traditional Colombian model they call "Arco Iris" or "Rainbow." Colombians are fans of very colorful designs. They are a bit like Mexicans; they love bright and shimmering colors. That style is not really made for us. We are often initially attracted by these Latino colors, but after a few months, the risk is to get tired of them. "Mariposa" means butterfly. This model is like the butterfly's wing beats, sending gradients of soft and tone-on-tone colors.
The model, which appears very simple, was not easy to design at all. I am talking about the technical sheet of the pattern that will be adapted to the mechanical loom. In other words, the distribution of the threads across the entire width of the fabric to achieve the final pattern depending on whether you weave at 140, 160, or 180 width. It was a little headache!! But 23 years later, this model has become a great classic...
