Here is a genuine hammock made in northern Colombia with an exclusive Tropical Hamac design. This type of model is used locally as a bed for sleeping at night. We have been working with the same factory for over 20 years, much to the delight of our customers. The weaving of this hammock is one of the best in the world, which is why a hammock fabric can last on average 10 years with seasonal use (we explain this in more detail below).
However, a Colombian who uses this hammock every day will replace it after 3 years. We have existed since 1988., So, we have some experience to observe the lifespan of our hammocks, which varies from 5 to 15 years depending on the care given by each person.
Over time, we have observed two very different types of use:
👉 Intensive use:
This is the case for those who leave their hammock outside day and night for 5 to 6 months of the year. The hammock is then exposed to the sun, rain, and temperature variations. The hammock's spreader bars end up getting tangled, and washing is often forgotten... As a result, its lifespan is reduced.
👉 Careful use:
Here, the hammock is regularly used outside, but it is brought indoors when the weather forecast predicts several days of rain in a row. A brief passing shower is not a problem at all.
Machine washing at 40°C, once a year at the end of the season, helps preserve the softness of the cotton. In winter, the hammock is stored in a sheltered place, and the spreader bars are checked from time to time. This simple care significantly extends the life of the hammock, often beyond 10 years.
Ultra robust and non-deformable, this fabric (360g per m²) is consistent. Many hammocks have fabrics that eventually sag and trap you inside. The thread used is recycled cotton: 70% cotton from the textile industry (clean scraps with colorfast dyes) and 30% polyester. The polyester filament is there to strengthen the recycled thread. This thread is truly ecological as it allowed us to obtain the "Sustainable Development Trophy» with our chamber of commerce.
A maximum of cotton will be comfortable against the skin. Fabrics with 50% or more polyester, as well as all 100% synthetic fabrics, should be avoided.
This hammock is made up of 28 cords in the arms, each with a strength of 16 kg. That makes a total of 448 kg! Furthermore, technically, the breaking weight must be divided by two to obtain the maximum load. That is why the little brother the 3 gray hammocks in size L, withstood our test with 478 kg without breaking!! We always underestimate the maximum load indicated in our technical data sheets.
To hang your hammock on a tree, a beam, or a concrete wall, visit our page “Hammock mounts". To discover our wooden or metal hammock stands, also visit the page dedicated to the" hammock stands.
In any case, we remain available by phone to advise you and help you choose the solution best suited to your installation. As we say here, "a good fastening is the key to a hammock that lasts... and to a successful nap."
We invite you to wash this hammock in the machine at 40°C, or even at 60°C if necessary. Know that a Brazilian, for example, washes it every 10 to 15 days when it is their bed! This information shows us how little hammock culture is present in our country.
Most of our luxury hammocks from Colombia, entirely handwoven (fingerwoven), should be hand washed in cold water without wringing. Simply soak them in clear water with a little mild soap, then let them air dry in the shade.
A little anecdote: we saw some customers come back after 8 years… without ever having washed their hammock! Result: a slightly sticky fabric, a reminder of all the summers spent in it. A good reminder that a little bath from time to time is also good for the hammock !
Suspended between sky and earth, we wish you a wonderful stay nestled in one of our hammocks!
