We offer 2 different wood qualities: larch and spruce. These two species belong to the fir family (good to know when you want to buy a treatment or cleaning product).
Beyond its aesthetics, larch wood has interesting characteristics, both in terms of its natural durability and its physical and mechanical properties. Its adequate hardness allows it to be used as flooring for its good resistance to indentation. Naturally rot-resistant, this wood requires no special treatment and can be used outdoors. Larch is a moderately stable wood that may tend to crack. For these reasons, it is not recommended to use it in regions where humidity can be very low for several weeks. Therefore, it should be avoided on terraces in southern regions that are too hot and dry in summer. Indeed, it could cause significant deformation problems (cupping of the boards) and develop cracks, although it is noted that these stands, even when cracked, last for many years.
Spruce is a lighter wood but maintains excellent durability when treated through (like our Maya Relax stands). It is one of the species that best supports glued laminated wood. Like larch, it will gray over time. Apply a saturator if you want to keep its original color or a stain if you want to give it a different shade.
In summary, if you live in a very dry region like the southeast of France where humidity is low, favor spruce. See our sets with the Maya Relax stand (lighter wood).
In any case, never store your hammock stand in a dry place during winter.
Regarding the hammock, with minimal maintenance it will last you a good ten years. Wash it in the machine at 40°C at least once a year at the end of the season to remove all organic micro-debris that fall on the fabric during outdoor use. No tumble drying, dry in the sun and store in a well-dried place during winter.
