Our latest trip to Brazil allowed us to meet with a major hammock brand in the state of Paraíba. Brazil is a great hammock country, and many brands are present there. We fell for the very innovative models from Santa Lucia, the result of a collaboration between designers and artisans.
The fringes are made from hammock fabric scraps and are hand-sewn. Zooming in on the fringes, you can see the details of these stitches that add greatly to the final look. It would have been much simpler and faster to sew these fabric pieces together with a sewing machine, but this brand cares about the details.
In the hem of the hammock (the junction between the fabric and the hammock arms), you can see three strips that Brazilians call "Mamucaba." This detail is also made on a very artisanal loom over the ropes of the hammock arms. It is common to find just one mamucaba; here, and always for aesthetic reasons, we have three!
A hammock of quality, best suited for places sheltered from sun and rain. It would be a shame to let such beauty deteriorate in the sun...
The compatible hammock stand is our model Maya King.
