The Paquito support made of laminated spruce requires very little maintenance, if any. If you leave it outside as is, it will turn gray and shiny in the sun. However, you have the option to apply a wood stain if you wish or use a saturator that will prevent the wood from graying over time. To see how this support ages, visit our blog: a hammock stand that lasts!
Do not store it in a dry place during winter. The wood needs ambient humidity to stay in good condition. If you leave it outside during winter, remember to loosen the bolts by 2 turns with a wrench, as the wood swells due to cold and moisture. In spring, you can tighten the bolts again to adjust the structure.
If you want your support to keep its natural look and avoid graying from sun exposure, applying a saturator is an ideal solution. It will protect the wood while preserving its original color.
As Europeans, who are quite inexperienced with hammocks, we tend to associate hammocks more with furniture than with textiles. Yet, in Latin America, people who sleep in hammocks wash them every 10 to 15 days, just as we do with our sheets. Likewise, if you rent a hammock at a campsite, hotel, guesthouse, or elsewhere, you will be provided with a freshly washed hammock. You might sleep in it for only 2 nights, and it will be washed again, clean for the next customer!
