A genuine Colombian hammock.

Genuine XXL hammock Made in Colombia. This model is used there as an everyday bed. We chose a manufacturer that operates in the high-end market and is unanimously recognized in its region, where almost everyone sleeps in a hammock! We have observed that our customers use it for periods ranging from 5 to 15 years, depending on the care each person takes.

How is the strength (load capacity) of a hammock or a hammock chair calculated ?

You may have noticed that we provide the number of cords present in the arms of the hammock. This model, for example, has a total of 52 cords (that is, 26 cords on each side), each with a resistance of 16 kg. It should be noted that when we state a resistance of 16 kg, it is because we have conducted tests and found that this cord's breaking point is actually 32 kg. The safety rule for hammocks is to divide the breaking point of a product by 2. This is why you sometimes see photos of tests with considerable weights on our product sheets. Indeed, we have never managed to break any of our hammocks during testing !

Similarly, a 2mm diameter cord can have a strength of 16 kg, while another of the same diameter may only have 5 kg. The strength of a single thread is important. It all depends on the quality of the thread used. Knowing that the stronger it is, the more expensive it is (let's not forget that the hammock is a heavy product and that the cost of the raw material it is made from has a significant influence on its final price). Likewise, the manufacturing technique also matters: thread density per meter and twisting technique.

In our Colombian manufacturing, the cord that makes up the arms of the hammock is traditionally called "Piola Curican." It is made from 3 strands. Each strand is twisted in one direction, and when the three are assembled together, they are twisted in the opposite direction. That is why, when a customer brings us a hammock that is ten years old or even much older and it is at the end of its life, we sometimes salvage the cord from the arms to use later for repairs !

Tropical hamac offers unbeatable quality/price ratio !

Observed duration of this hammock.

We have been operating in-store since 1988, which allows us to have a good understanding of the longevity of all our products. We distinguish between two different uses.

Intense useFor someone who leaves their hammock outside day and night for 5 to 6 months of the year. The ropes get tangled! Washing is an unknown.

Careful useFor someone who leaves their hammock outside and brings it in when the weather forecast predicts rain for several days. A passing shower is welcome. The hammock is machine washed at 40°C at least once a year at the end of the season, then stored inside the house during the winter. The ropes are regularly checked.

A sturdy and eco-friendly hammock fabric.

Ultra durable and non-deformable, this fabric (360g per m²) is consistent. Many hammocks have fabrics that eventually sag and trap you inside. The thread used is recycled cotton: 70% cotton from the textile industry (clean scraps from fixed dyes) and 30% polyester. The polyester filament is there to strengthen the recycled thread. This thread is truly ecological as it allowed us to obtain the "Sustainable Development Trophy"with our chamber of commerce."

A maximum of cotton will be pleasant for contact with the skin. Fabrics with 50% or more polyester, as well as all 100% synthetic fabrics, should be avoided.

Handcrafted finishes.

Each hammock passes through the hands of various artisans passionate about this craft, which resonates as a deep cultural imprint. Over there, the hammock has a thousand years of history and traditions. Assembly of the fabric, technical sheet of the designs. Tropical Influences, hem, arm, handle, cord, mamucaba, etc... So many steps that require ancestral know-how.

An easy interview.

We invite you to wash this hammock in the machine at 40°C, or even at 60°C if necessary. Know that a Brazilian washes theirs every 10 to 15 days when it is their bed! Most hammocks are washed in cold water. It all depends on the thread. At Tropical Hamac, choice and quality are paramount.

A fair trade.

It is above all a state of mind. We started in 1988 with respect for all our suppliers, whether they are industrial or artisanal. Long before the term "fair trade" came into the spotlight. So it is support, presence, loyalty, and fair compensation that we promote with all our contacts. This year, we were happy to be able to improve the end-of-year celebrations for the 34 workers of this factory. Their messages and videos in return warm our hearts.

Suspended between sky and earth, we wish you a wonderful stay nestled in the embrace of our hammocks!

We highly recommend that you watch this short video, which will teach you 6 essential details to know for the proper use of a hammock:
