Truly made in Colombia, this hammock model is used there as an everyday bed. We have chosen a manufacturer operating in the high-end sector. As such, for everyday use, a Colombian would replace it after about 3 years. Among our customers, we observe usage ranging from 5 to 15 years depending on the care taken by each person.
We have been present in stores since 1993, which allows us to have a good understanding of the longevity of all our products. We distinguish two different types of use.
Intense use: for someone who leaves their hammock outdoors day and night for 5 to 6 months of the year. The suspension cords get tangled! Washing is unknown.
Careful use: for someone who leaves their hammock outdoors but brings it inside when rainy weather is forecast for several days. A passing rain shower is welcome. The hammock is machine washed at 40°C at least once a year at the end of the season, then stored indoors during winter. The suspension cords are regularly checked.
Ultra-strong and non-deformable, this fabric (360g per m²) is consistent. Many hammocks have fabrics that eventually sag, trapping the user inside. The thread used is recycled cotton: 70% cotton from the textile industry (clean scraps from solid dyeing processes) and 30% polyester. The polyester filament is there to strengthen the recycled thread. This thread is truly ecological as it earned us the "Sustainable Development Trophy" from our chamber of commerce.
A high cotton content is pleasant against the skin. Fabrics with 50% or more polyester, as well as all 100% synthetic fabrics, should be avoided.
This hammock is made up of 32 suspension cords, each with a resistance of 16 kg. That’s a total of 512 kg! Moreover, technically, the breaking weight must be divided by two to obtain the maximum load. We always underestimate the maximum allowed load in our technical sheets. To ensure this resistance, we conducted a test with 681 kg without any breakage. We couldn’t add any more weight to the hammock. You can see this test in a product photo: Azteka hammock stand.
Each hammock passes through the hands of various artisans passionate about this work, which resonates as a deep cultural imprint. There, the hammock has a thousand years of history and traditions. Assembly of the fabric, technical design sheets Tropical Influences, hemming, suspension cords, pullado, piola, handle, etc… So many steps that require ancestral know-how.
We invite you to machine wash this hammock at 40°C, even at 60°C if necessary. Know that a Brazilian washes theirs every 10 to 15 days when it’s their bed! Most hammocks are washed cold. It all depends on the thread. At Tropical Influences, choice and quality are paramount.
Above all, it’s a state of mind. We started in 1988 with respect for all our suppliers, whether industrial or artisanal. Long before the term "fair trade" came to light. So it is support, presence, loyalty, and fair remuneration that we promote with all our contacts. We have been working with this Colombian manufacturer since 1993!!
Suspended between sky and earth, we wish you a wonderful stay nestled in one of our hammocks!
