Genuine hammock made in Colombia. This model is used there as an everyday bed. We have chosen a manufacturer that operates in the high-end market and is unanimously recognized in its region, where almost everyone sleeps in a hammock! We have observed among our customers a usage lifespan ranging from 5 to 15 years, depending on the care given by each individual.
You may have noticed that we provide the number of cords present in the arms of the hammock. This model, for example, has a total of 52 cords (that is, 26 cords on each side), each with a resistance of 16 kg. It is important to know that when we indicate 16 kg of resistance, it is because we have conducted tests and found that this cord has a breaking strength of 32 kg. The safety rule for hammocks is to divide the breaking point of a product by 2. This is why you occasionally see photos of tests with considerable weights on our product sheets. Indeed, we have never managed to break one of our hammocks during a test !
Similarly, a 2mm diameter cord can have a strength of 16 kg, while another of the same diameter may only have 5 kg. The strength of a single thread is important. Everything depends on the quality of the thread used. Knowing that the more resistant it is, the more expensive it is (let's not forget that the hammock is a heavy product and the cost of the raw material that composes it has a great influence on its final price). Likewise, the manufacturing technique also matters. Thread density per meter and twisting technique.
In our Colombian manufacturing, the cord that makes up the arms of the hammock is traditionally called "Piola Curican." It is made of 3 strands. Each strand is twisted in one direction, and when the three are assembled together, they are twisted in the opposite direction. That is why when a customer brings us a hammock that is ten years old or even much older and is at the end of its life, we sometimes recover the arm cords to use them later for repairs !
Tropical Influences It's an unbeatable quality/price ratio !
We have been present in stores since 1988, which allows us to have a good understanding of the longevity of all our products. We distinguish between two different uses.
Intense useFor someone who leaves their hammock outside day and night for 5 to 6 months of the year. The ropes get tangled! Washing is an unknown.
Careful useFor someone who leaves their hammock outside and brings it in when rainy weather is forecast for several days. A passing rain shower is welcome. The hammock is machine washed at 40°C at least once a year at the end of the season, then stored inside the house during the winter. The spreader bars are regularly checked.
Ultra robust and non-deformable, this fabric (360g per m²) is consistent. Many hammocks have fabrics that eventually sag and trap you inside. The thread used is recycled cotton: 70% cotton from the textile industry (clean scraps with colorfast dyes) and 30% polyester. The polyester filament is there to strengthen the recycled thread. This thread is truly ecological as it allowed us to obtain the "Sustainable Development Trophy» with our chamber of commerce.
A maximum of cotton will be comfortable against the skin. Fabrics with 50% or more polyester, as well as all 100% synthetic fabrics, should be avoided.
Each hammock passes through the hands of various artisans passionate about this craft, which resonates as a deep cultural imprint. Over there, the hammock has a thousand years of history and traditions. Assembly of the fabric, technical sheet of the designs. Tropical Influences, hem, arm, handle, cord, mamucaba, etc... So many steps that require ancestral know-how.
We invite you to wash this hammock in the machine at 40°C, or even at 60°C if necessary. Know that a Brazilian washes theirs every 10 to 15 days when it is their bed! Most hammocks are washed in cold water. It all depends on the thread. At Tropical Influences, The choice and quality are paramount.
It is a mindset above all. We started in 1988 with respect for all our suppliers, whether industrial or artisanal. Long before the term "fair trade" came into the spotlight. So it is support, presence, loyalty, and fair compensation that we promote with all our contacts. This year, we were happy to be able to improve the holiday season for the 34 workers of this factory. Their messages and videos in return warm our hearts.
Suspended between sky and earth, we wish you a wonderful stay nestled in the heart of our hammocks!
