How to Choose the Right Freestanding Hammock

Most hammocks sold online sacrifice comfort for ease of manufacturing. The majority of supports are designed to fit "everything," but end up fitting nothing. Result: hammock too tight, arched back, poor weight distribution, fabric that deforms…
Our recommendation: choose a hammock without spreader bars (Latin American style) and a properly sized support for a curved suspension. The comfort is incomparable.

The Right Hammock + Support Combination

The ratio between the length and height of the support is crucial. A well-installed hammock should form a gentle curve. If it is too tight, you will be "banana-shaped," poorly supported. With our supports, we have found the right balance since 1995 — first by making our own models, then by collaborating with specialized craftsmen. Choosing Materials: Softness and Durability

We prioritize natural and recycled fibers, soft to the touch and respectful to the skin.

• ECOTEC® recycled cotton: ecological, stable, 80% cotton / 20% polyester

Avoid 100% polyester hammocks: their “outdoor” look hides an uncomfortable truth. They are stiff, hot, static-prone, and not durable.

What Dimensions for Your Hammock?

The wider it is, the more comfortable:

• Up to 1.70 m: 140 cm wide (size L)
• Up to 1.85 m: 160 cm (size XL)
• From 1.85 m or for two people: 180 to 190 cm (size XXL/XXXL)

A “2-person” hammock should be at least 160 cm wide. Beware of misleading marketing terms.

Hammock and Support Maintenance

• The hammock: machine washable at 40°C, air dry. Store in a dry place in winter.
• The metal support: not rustproof, but durable. A single coat of Hammerite paint every 2-3 years is enough to protect it (no rustproofing needed).
