Based in a semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil, where the climate is dry and hot with little rainfall, our manufacturer exclusively uses two raw materials: colored organic cotton and recycled cotton, which do not require water for their production.
The colored cotton is grown in the state of Paraíba without chemical additives and is certified as an organic product by Ecocert. The agroecological management implemented has no impact on the health of workers or the environment. Moreover, since there is neither irrigated cultivation nor dyeing, the pieces made by the company save 87.5% of water in their production process. See all our organic hammocks.
About 400 families in the state of Paraíba are involved in a local production chain, ranging from farmers to workers in a textile factory. Associations of rural communities, such as the Quilombos and farmers, are formed.
Most artisans work from home, mastering techniques like macramé, crochet, and embroidery, and craftsmanship is a fundamental source of income for women living in remote areas.
In November 2017, after 15 years away, we decided to return to the discovery of Brazil and its hammocks. It is a country where we bought many hammocks between 1989 and 2003. Then our adventure in the land of the hammock gradually led us to Colombia. Another princess of the hammock....
So we returned to Brazil with a different perspective, much more expertise under our belts, and other resources. These resources were not used for 4-star hotels to bask by a beautiful pool, no, definitely not! We remain travelers at heart and in practice. No, rather, they helped us spend a lot of time on the road, but also with the most skilled artisans in this country. Bobbin lace, Richelieu embroidery, cross stitch, labyrinth lace, etc...
And then, one day, this wonderful encounter. A manufacturer passionate about his craft who enables an entire village and its surroundings to maintain a very, very, very high level of craftsmanship. And what happens when this is the case? Some designers think that this expertise should be used and combined with a good dose of imagination.
Be aware, this is a small production. If you fall for a hammock just like all of us at Tropical Hammock, don’t wait too long..... We make many people happy, but we sell so many rare or even unique models that when they are gone... they’re gone.
