A genuine hammock made in Colombia

Colombia is one of the largest countries where the hammock is used. There, it is used as a bed daily, both in winter and summer, and both indoors and outdoors! We are far from this practice, as we often associate hammocks with vacations and relaxation. For Colombians, it is a genuine alternative to a bed or an ideal extra sleeping option to replace a guest room.

Observed duration of this hammock

Our presence in the store since 1993 allows us to have a good understanding of the longevity of all our products. We distinguish between two different uses, which vary from 5 to 15 years depending on the care taken by each individual.

Intense use : for someone who leaves their hammock outside day and night for 5 to 6 months of the year. The arms get tangled. !The hammock is never washed.

Careful use For someone who leaves their hammock outside and brings it in when the weather forecast predicts several days of rain, a passing shower is welcome. The hammock is machine washed at 40°C at least once a year, at the end of the season, then stored indoors in a dry place during the winter. The spreader bars are regularly checked.

A sturdy and eco-friendly hammock fabric.

Ultra durable and shape-retaining, this fabric (360g per m²) is consistent. Many hammocks have fabrics that eventually sag and trap you inside. The thread used is a... recycled cotton. 70% cotton from the textile industry (clean scraps with colorfast dyes) and 30% polyester. The polyester filament is there to strengthen the recycled yarn. This yarn is truly eco-friendly since it allowed us to obtain the « Sustainable Development Trophy» with our chamber of commerce.

A maximum of cotton will be comfortable against the skin. Fabrics with 50% or more polyester, as well as all 100% synthetic fabrics, should be avoided.

Hammock arms (suspension straps) that support more than 512 kg !

This hammock is made up of 32 cords in the arms, each with a strength of 16 kg. That makes a total of 512 kg! We conducted a test on this model and our...metal Azteka hammock stand With a total of 681 kg, neither the hammock nor the support gave way!! Furthermore, technically, the breaking weight must be divided by two to obtain the maximum load. We always underestimate the maximum allowable load in our technical sheets. Each hammock passes through the hands of various artisans passionate about this craft, which resonates as a deep cultural imprint. So many steps that require ancestral know-how.

Maintenance of your hammock.

We invite you to wash this hammock in the machine at 40°C, or even at 60°C if necessary. Know that a Brazilian washes theirs every 10 to 15 days when it is their bed! Most hammocks are washed in cold water. It all depends on the thread. At Tropical Hamac, choice and quality are paramount.

To wash your hammock in the machine, tie the arms together so they don't get tangled in the drum, and dry it outdoors. It is a heavy product, so a tumble dryer is not recommended. Washing it at least once a year at the end of the season is essential. This will remove all organic debris that has fallen into the mesh. It is this debris that eventually causes mold to develop in the fabric. Finally, store it indoors during the winter, not in a garden shed, to protect it from mice and humidity.
