We have been present in stores since 1988, which allows us to have a good understanding of the longevity of all our products. We distinguish between 2 different uses.
Intense Use: for someone who leaves their hammock outside day and night for 5 to 6 months of the year. The ropes get tangled! Washing is an unknown.
Careful Use: for someone who leaves their hammock outside but brings it in when the weather forecast predicts rain for several days. A passing shower is welcome. The hammock is machine washed at 40°C at least once a year at the end of the season, then stored indoors during the winter. The ropes are regularly checked.
Ultra-strong and non-deformable, this fabric (360 g per m²) is consistent. Many hammocks have fabrics that eventually sag and trap you inside. The thread used is recycled cotton: 70% cotton from the textile industry (clean scraps with stable dyes) and 30% polyester. The polyester filament is there to strengthen the recycled thread. The canvas hammock from Colombia is tough!
A high cotton content will be pleasant against the skin. Fabrics with 50% or more polyester, as well as all 100% synthetic fabrics, should be avoided.
This hammock is made with 52 cords in the ropes, each with a resistance of 16 kg. That’s a total of 528 kg! Technically, the breaking weight should be divided by two to get the maximum load. That’s why this hammock passed our test with 680 kg without breaking!! We always underestimate the maximum allowed load in our technical sheets. This hammock is truly ultra-resistant and its fabric will not deform like many imitations found everywhere online at tempting prices. The "Colombian Hammock" is unfortunately not a protected designation of origin (PDO), though it should be.
Each hammock passes through the hands of various artisans passionate about this craft, which resonates as a deep cultural imprint. There, the hammock has a thousand years of history and traditions. Assembling the fabric, technical drawing specifications Tropical Influences, hemming, ropes, mamucaba, pullado, handle, etc. — so many steps requiring ancestral know-how.
We invite you to wash this hammock in a machine at 40°C, even at 60°C if necessary. Know that a Brazilian washes theirs every 10 to 15 days when it’s their bed! Most hammocks are washed cold. It all depends on the thread. Unlike the net hammock or Mexican hammock, which should be hand washed to avoid tangling the threads. At Tropical Hamac, choice and quality are paramount.

If in doubt, call us!
It is above all a state of mind. We started in 1988 with respect for all our suppliers, whether industrial or artisanal. Long before the term “fair trade” became widely known. It is therefore support, presence, loyalty, and fair remuneration that we promote with all our contacts.
Suspended between sky and earth, we wish you a wonderful stay nestled in one of our hammocks!
