The Akumal hammock is the Mexican model made from much thicker rope for those of you who need a more robust hammock (it is a net that we recommend if you have children who will be roughhousing in your hammock).
Its comfort is really very pleasant, because even though it is made only with two-thread mesh (unlike the four-thread mesh of the fine thread models), its bedding is soft, silky, and so stretchy that you float like on a cloud. The net hammock, its strengths
If you adopt this hammock for outdoor use, the colors will fade with UV exposure but after some time they will remain light, a bit pastel, forever. This hammock will withstand rain but it takes quite a while to dry because the rope is thick (this is a hammock that weighs 2.4kg!). Therefore, it is preferable to bring it inside when you know the weather will be rainy. But it is not an obligation either. If the hammock gets caught in a heavy storm, place a broomstick across it and let it dry.
Very important: wash at least once a year. This is the secret for your hammock to last a long time. Washing removes microscopic organic debris that get into the cotton and can cause mold once the hammock is folded for winter. Net hammocks should not be machine washed. Take a bucket of very hot water, a bit of regular detergent, stir vigorously, rinse thoroughly, and let your hammock dry outside. In winter, store it indoors and not in a garden shed (mice, humidity). That’s it, we think we haven’t forgotten anything, you now know almost everything! Origin, Yucatan, Mexico.
Because the hammock is much more than just a relaxation object, here is our FAQ to become a true pro of the Mexican hammock!
What is the history of the hammock in Mexico?
The history of the hammock goes back to the indigenous communities of the Caribbean, who slept elevated in nets to protect themselves from the ground and insects. Introduced to Mexico by Christopher Columbus, it was later perfected by the Maya civilization. Today, in the Yucatán Peninsula (where our hammocks are made), this ancestral object is a true cultural symbol, passed down from generation to generation with unique weaving techniques.
Is a net hammock strong enough for 2 or 3 people?
Absolutely! Our XL models can support up to 250 kg, making them an ideal cocoon for a moment as a couple... or three, why not! For even more strength, our XXL hammocks can hold up to 350 kg capacity. Comfort and robustness guaranteed.
Can I leave my hammock outside all year round?
Yes, but with caution. A hammock can definitely stay outside, provided it is not continuously exposed to sun or rain. The ideal? Place it under a pergola or awning.
