This single-place hammock is handwoven in the village of San Jacinto, in northern Colombia. It’s a place we know well, where we select the colors and patterns directly with the artisans. This is a model you won’t find anywhere else. We have it made especially, and that’s exactly what gives it its charm: a true traditional hammock, with a thick fabric, 100% natural cotton. Perfect for a good flat nap, set up diagonally.
And if you want it to last a long time, a little tip: remember to check the ropes at the ends from time to time. If they get tangled, untangle them gently, rope by rope. This prevents some from wearing out faster than others.
This hammock is woven from 100% cotton. It is sometimes reinforced with a bit of acrylic to better resist moisture and sunlight. But be careful, it’s not a hammock to leave outside all the time. Since it’s quite heavy and has a thick fabric, it takes a long time to dry if it gets rained on. The best is to shelter it or bring it inside when the weather turns.
In Colombia, the luxury hammock is mainly used indoors, for napping or even as an extra bed. In a bedroom or living room, it immediately brings a warm atmosphere. And honestly, we think it definitely deserves a nice place in your home too.
Colombia is one of the countries where hammock culture is strongest. The artisans are respected, well paid, and proud of their work. Their hammocks are even displayed in art galleries in Bogotá, Cartagena… and as far as New York! This handmade hammock is the result of over 15 years of collaboration with the artisans of San Jacinto, even remotely during the years of armed conflict in the Bolívar State.
In Colombia, there is a great variety of weaving techniques. The highest-end models are entirely handwoven on traditional looms, while others, more accessible, are semi-industrial (machine-made fabric, hand-finished). And for enthusiasts, the Wayuu Indian hammocks represent the pinnacle of complexity: up to 8 months of weaving for a single hammock.
